Under the Asset building program, we fund programs that:
Extend Critical Financial Services
Increase savings and access to housing credits, individual development accounts and children’s savings accounts in order to encourage schooling, home ownership, property ownership and micro or social enterprises;
Support innovative programs such as employer-based asset building efforts and pairing remittances with credit and savings products for immigrant and migrant workers;
Assist microfinance institutions to reduce poverty by focusing on the provision of schooling for girls, preventing the spread of communicable diseases such as HIV, and strengthening the role of women as managers and leaders;
Encourage microfinance institutions to work at the intersection of micro and small business;
Under the Worker's Rights program, we provide grants to local, regional or global programs that:
Disseminate information about workplace rights and responsibilities to workers and managers and monitor and enforce labor law protections;
Increase understanding of health issues — especially communicable diseases like HIV — and promote access to asset-building and life skills training; and
Link trade liberalization initiatives with labor and human rights protections and build the capacity of countries to monitor and enforce laws.
Under HIV/AIDS, we fund programs that:
Challenge the stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS;
Support disproportionately affected and underserved communities; and
Increase the availability of and access to clean syringes to prevent the spread of HIV through needle sharing.
